Once again I have encountered the White Ghost.
Traveling south with Nestor and Wumboo in our ox cart I was very worried about getting back in time. I was looking over my map when Nestor began to get agitated. Soon Wumboo began to growl softly, and then it was my turn to notice it.
It was the smell. A smell of rot and unwashed body crevices that felt thick in the air and it was stronger as we moved forward. I stopped. There is only one thing I know of that can smell that bad — mobgoblins. True to their name, there are always lots of them.
Even though we couldn’t afford to waste time, I turned the cart around and headed back for the bridge that crosses the nearby river. From the other side I would be able to keep an eye on them without getting close to them. Also, to a mobgoblin, swimming is too much like bathing so I knew they wouldn’t cross the river and I hoped that they would be too lazy to make their way to the bridge.
When I had finally gotten to the point where I would pass them, I did see them in the distance. I also saw a white cloaked figure among them. I tried to look inconspicuous but it was no use. I couldn’t hear him from that distance but I could see the White Ghost point his finger at me and the mob was instantly on the move and headed back to the bridge.
I can’t out run them the whole way back to Tarandus so we have to stop them now. There are too many even for Wumboo to handle so we can’t scare them off. We will need to outsmart them.
This shouldn’t be too hard because mobgoblin intelligence is somewhere between belly button lint and foot fungus — maybe even less. They are so dimwitted that Rain Lightning once got them to surrender by trapping them behind a little wall that they could have easily climbed over. Apparently they hate the thought of being captured.
Even though in the cart I have what I need to quickly build a fence I don’t think this fact will help me. Can I somehow build a fence around them? I don’t have much time, what can I do?
