Stonecoats by a warm fire

The storm has finally begun to lighten up but the journey back is still long and difficult. I came to the Far North a different way than how I am leaving. Everything looks so different that I am having a very hard time not getting lost. The storm wiped away all of the tracks I made coming in.

I also think that I am being followed. Twice now I have seen a white figure moving through the snows behind me. I can’t stop but I am afraid of getting even more lost.

… which brings me to my present quandary.

I came across some very chatty ogres called Stonecoats eating by a fire. They offered to show me a short cut back to the nearest village. I don’t know if I can trust Stonecoats because I hear that they eat anything and everything they can get their hands on so long as it’s meat.

I tried not to let on that I knew what they were and I asked Chenoo, the most vocal of them, what it was that they were eating just then.

“I just asked the others the same question before you came, little person,” he said, “They found this meat frozen in the snow. I’ve never eaten people meat and but looked like people meat so I refused to eat any, but they told me they don’t eat people either. They told me to taste it and see for myself; so I did. And now I know for sure that it isn’t people meat. You can taste it too if you don’t believe me.”

Can I trust these ogres or should I find my own way?
