What’s this? No trouble, no pranks, no tricks? No toys getting tied up, no cat getting kicked?

Well here’s a surprise, a real big surprise,
the trolls have been kind of the almost good guys.
The have actually done good this whole past week,
the trolls they made cookies, and one even sweeped.
They wrapped up some presents be here’s the real gem,
those presents they wrapped weren’t even for them.
They put up some ribbon wherever we let them;
they even taught others your valuable lessons.

So maybe we tricked them maybe once or twice,
and you could then argue that we’re not so nice,
but we got all those trolls to do really good things
even though it was us who were pulling their strings,
by doing nice things even with your assist,
those trolls earned their way right onto the nice list.

On a holiday day there is no way to get,
the trolls any presents this late and yet,
maybe it’s not a thing that they need
but a deed
that shows them we love what we’ve seen.
To show them we value the things they have done,
I have an idea and a very good one.
Perhaps they don’t have to go back to their holes,
to their pipes and their dirt and the wet and the cold.
We’ll grant them a rare kind of troll amnesty
and we’ll let them stay here with our own family.

There’s a little bit troll in each one of us,
that part that is lazy or raises a fuss,
that part that tells stories or just won’t admit,
when we’re wrong and we know and we still just insist.
All of us maybe could learn a new tune,
a lesson or two from the trolls in the room.
Sometimes helping others helps us make the time
to do what we should with our time by design.

The smallest of things that our lives have been handed
are sometimes the biggest we’re taking for granted.
May we live so long we’ll be wise enough,
to look back on ourselves and see past the fluff.
To feel mostly joy and be able to say
we’re not happiest for all the games we play,
for the things we had owned or things done our way
but for people with whom we could share our days.
And for those we love but could not be here,
we feel lucky knowing they’ll always be near,
since they’re in our hearts, we can see then
each moment we live, it is shared with them.
So on this last day wishing all the best,
may your hearts be full and your lives be blessed.
