One of the grandmothers wanted to fund a small day trip for the kids for the holidays. We came up with the idea of a scavenger hunt where the kids would get a riddle from her by text that they would need to solve. Once they found the location and/or thing then they would text a picture back and then get the next clue.
The day of the trip we had beautiful almost warm and sunny weather for late December, and it turned out to be the last good day of the winter season. The kids had a great time and so did everyone else involved.
In their present that they opened were gloves and hats and the following note:
- Girls charge your cameras (which means your phones)
- and grab your parents too
- bundle up warm with hats, gloves and scarves
- and wear only comfortable shoes
- Im sending you for a day in the city
- with a list of things to do
- its a scavenger hunt where you will get
- several texts with a single clue
- when you find what it is send a picture to me
- it might be a place or a food
- once you show me that you have figured it out
- i’ll text you to somewhere new
- the goal is to find as quick as you can
- each thing that I text to you
- and you’ll get to drag your parents around
- as you play a clever slueth
- so I wish you good luck, and dont ever give up
- there are treats among all the clues
When we arrived (near 14th and 2nd) we got our first clue which started this adventure.
- For a start, on the corner of 2nd and 9th
- you’ll find ukranian food
- they’re known for pierogis so order one plate
- and let me know when you do
- they have different kinds so don’t be afraid
- to try out one or two
- but eat them up quick and then get on your way
- we have quite a list to get through
